This is part of an ancient alluvial fan that became an inverted channel (its material was more resistant to erosion than the surrounding terrain) along with what appear to be embedded craters. The craters might be filled in with strata, that is positioned underneath the strata of the alluvial fan. If so, the embedded craters might give us a time frame from when runoff from the fan occurred.

We surmise these are craters because of the visible rims. This scene is to the south of Ostrov Crater, which is located in Margaritifer Terra in the Southern Hemisphere of Mars.
